Kami berkumpul pukul 13.30 ϑi Oss Café.

Perjalanan pertama kami menuju Posko Klaten Utara.

Tuhan memberkati.

Nurma’s story (after I edited & translated her writing) is as following:

English version:
Monday, November 15, 2010:
Our mission (Nurma and Widy) for the victims of Merapi started from today at 8.15 pm WIB. We went with afternoon train from Senen Station to Solo Balapan Station. After we arrived in Bekasi Station, there were train breakdown so our train stopped more than 2 hours there. The weather was very hot)

Approximately at 12 pm, the train could go again. There was worried in our heart since we had to start distributing our donation at 9 am WIB, but we surrendered everything to God.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010:
At 10 am WIB, we finally arrived in Klaten Station. Rio, our cousin, had waited there. In a short time, we went home for take a bath and to prepare to go to the refugee camps. After that, we coordinated for the distribution of the logistics.

I directly went to the rice supplier to buy 10 sacks of rice in Metuk Area. Later I went to traditional market to buy onions, egg noodles, soy sauce, and another food. Later we went to wholesaler store in Klaten to buy cooking oil and sardin fish.

We gathered at 1.30pm at Oss Café. It was our place to put our logistics. Beyond our thought, our team was more than 10 persons! Youth team of Klaten Camp helped us. There are 2 cars we used to bring our logistics. The first car was pick-up and the second one was SUV car.

Our first journey was to Klaten Utara Camp. There were 135 refugees that came from The Downhill of Merapi. It was 8-10 km from Merapi who really needed help. When we were there, we mostly saw women and children. The men went to their houses, to see and to repair their houses, to give food to the livestocks, etc..

Then we went to the wholesaler store again to buy other logistics, since there were additional donation from Gerakan Samudera which transferred it to my account (Nurma’s account) at that time. After that, we planned to go to Depo Refugee Camp and Metuk Refugee Camp.

According to the volunteer in the camps, named Andi, there were 3000 refugees in the Depo Camp. 900 of those were children and teenagers. Their main needs were milk and food for baby. Therefore, we returned to the wholesaler store to buy logistics as the needs of the camp. Since limited time we couldn’t visit the Depo Camp and Metuk Camp ourselves, we gave the logistic donations to the volunteer in Depo Camp.

Besides Depo Camp, there was Metuk Camp. It only consisted of 30 refugees. The donation for them was only from the nearest neighbour. That is why we bought the food for the Metuk Camp too.

The last thing we spent were notebook and children’s toys. We bought 200 notebooks for students of Karangnongko High School who really needed those. We knew about this from the teacher who joined our team.

We also had information about 70 children in Karang Duren Camp. Children’s toys we prepared for trauma healing session in the camp were not sufficient. That is why we bought another toys.

Logistic buying session took a lot of time since the buying was according the needs of every refugee camps we would visit. It was as the result various places we would visit. The heavy rain made us stop our travel since we used motorcycle at that time.

We arrived at Karang Duren Village Camp in the afternoon. The journey was approximately 30 km from the Klaten City. Along the way, we could only see rice field. We lost once when we wanted to go to the camp.

There were a lot of refugees. We didn’t know exactly the amount of them but our focus was only for children’s trauma healing. They were not direct victims, but they received the effects of volcano eruption. Since their daily needs were sufficient, we only cheered them up.

We taught them several songs to make them cheer up. When we sang, “Di sini Senang, Di sana Senang”, there was a thing that made my heart was moved. I thought:

“Maybe I am wrong to ask them sing this song.”

Since when we changed the lyrics into:

“At home we are happy, at camp we are happy, every where my heart is happy.”

They didn’t sing as that, but:

“At home we are happy (several children said, “terrified”), at camp we are sad (only one or two children said, “happy”).

When I heard that, I could only pray quietly:

“Lord, give them strength and peaceful”.

Later we ate snack and drank milk with the children. It was followed by games.

There were several camps we needed to visit, but it had been very late in the evening. Our car had to return home. That is why we were back to Oss Café to unload the logistics. Later we tried to find transportation.

While waiting, we had rest for eating since we hadn’t had lunch yet. Our team only left 4 persons: I, my sister (Widy), my cousin (Rio), and my other cousin (Ersat).

We tried to contact the volunteer in the Depo Camp. There were 3000 refugees. One of the volunteers was willing to lend his car.

Finally at 9pm we went to Generasi Peduli Merapi Camp to give our last logistics, since the travel to other camps were very far away. Since we were so tired, we decided to go back at 11.30pm. Although we didn’t take picture at the last camp, we asked Andi, the volunteer there, to take documentation when he distributed the logistics and to send it to my e-mail (Nurma’s email). So, just wait for the photos from Andi.

If we were not limited by time and our physics, we really wanted to go to the refugee at the last camp. Our first plan was to visit small camps that didn’t have no or very small amount of donation. Our thoughts for not continuing our journey were:

  1. The distance was so far away.
  2. The street was so dark and no other light. As far as we saw, there were only rice field.
  3. The street is not so smooth.

We arrived at 11.45 pm at Oss Cafee. It was so tired, but we were grateful since we could give the best for our brothers and sisters in Klaten. We hoped that what we did could cheer them up, help, and bless them.

Thank you for all donations you gave for the victims of Merapi there. What you gave is very meaningful for them. Just wait for the coming pictures and financial report from us for upcoming days.

God bless.
